Hi all
I'm just wondering if there is any impact on the vCenter connectivity, ESXi's connectivity or even the running VMs if we reset the VMware vSphere® Appliance Management root password ?
https://localhost:5480/#/login?locale=en
I can't remember at all the user or even the password , but I guess the user must be root ?
I found this article VMware Knowledge Base showing how to reset the password , but we need to make sure that will not affect our servers.
Thank you
Best regards

Hi all,
We are going to setup 3 Node vSAN cluster with essential plus licensing. All three nodes will be installed in remote office and vCenter essential appliance will be part of the same 3 Node vSAN cluster.
Total 15 Vms are going to be host and storage requirement for these VMs are 10 TB. We will be setting up RAID-1 and FTT-1 policy so storage requirement will be 10 TB*2 = 20 TB. I want to know, since this is 3 node vSAN cluster, should i consider 30% slack space for the component rebuild ? i guess No ?
Thanks,
Hi,
I'm using VMware Fusion 10.1.2 on a brand-new Touch Bar MacBook Pro 13"
running High Sierra 10.13.5.
I do much of my work inside a lightweight Ubuntu 16.04 "server-installation"
with Xorg, a simple Window Manager and open-vm-tools installed (works great).
Now, when the VM is left running while I lock the MacBook and the display turns off and stays
off for a while.. then re-logging in again and re-focusing on the VM-window will cause a 5-15
second lag/freeze, while the following lines are logged by the (macOS) kernel (all marked as fault):

I am now running the VM without 3D Acceleration and that seems to have
solved the problem (needs more testing) but of course also removed the 3D
performance in the few applications where I sometimes need it (mostly firefox).
The second issue is that, when the screen stays off for a few hours, one will find
the machine in powered-off state. The VM, at that point, seems as if someone has
pulled the plug. When starting the VM again, it will report stale .Xauthority files and
Firefox will restore sessions. However, I was unable to find any dmesg content that
would indicate EXT4 journal recovery, which I would expect in such a case.
The VM has no power-management daemons or scripts and the logs don't mention
anything about sleep, suspend or hibernation. They also don't document a regular
shutdown.
I will leave the VM running over night and see if disabling 3D Acceleration also helped
in the latter, mysterious power-off case.
Maybe someone has other ideas in the meantime?
Thanks
Is there some command that I can run on the command line on an ESXi server (such as vim-cmd or esxcli) that will tell me the health status of the server? I don't need detailed information. "Healthy" or "Not Healthy" are good enough. If my script detects "Not Healthy", I'll manually take a closer look through the vSphere client or the Web GUI.
I'm running the HP custom image on the HP servers. I have the generic image on a few old Dell servers that will be replaced soon, so I'm not too concerned about those.
There is no vCenter in the environment. I have a mix of versions of ESXi (5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5) due to the fact that some of the older hardware won't run with newer versions of ESXi. (The main problem being that the RAID isn't recognized.)
Thanks.
I updated Mac Os 10.12 to 10.13.5.
After restarting, Mac OS doesn't work and VMware shows below image:
and after that this page:
I did this changes to .vmx file:

I attached vmware.log file:
Help me!!! Virtual Machines is not running!

Need to complete this task on about 400 Virtual Machines.
Was told this awesome community might have the building blocks for a PowerCLI script I could use the help me fix our environment.
Hello,
We are trying to deploy the Skyline Collector on our environment but, the follow message appear when we try link our account on collector:
The My VMware account or EA number you have selected is not associated with a Skyline enabled entitlement account. Please visit https://www.vmware.com/support/services/skyline.html to signup to be a part of our next adoption wave.
We have filled the form registration for the program and we received the invitation e-mail to access the program.
What other step we need to do access finish the Skyline collector deploy?
Thanks.
Hi all!
I was wondering if there is any repository of customisable scripts ie Automated Migration using Java /C#?
Thanks
Alicia
when i upgraded my vCenter server from a windows 2008 server to a 6.5 appliance apparently the vCenter license key didn't migrate over with it and now it will not apply to the vCenter
Need a PowerCLI script to get the "ESXi host name", "Host Hardware Vendor Name", "Host hardware model", "IP address", "Product full name"
We have about 15 vCenters which I want to grab all the vCenter hosts information with one time. Thanks in advance.
Hello all-- thought I'd pass through (pun intended!) my experience so far getting up a multiheaded ESXi box on an AMD Threadripper platform.
Hardware:
ASRock Professional Gaming X399 motherboard
AMD Threadripper 1950x
64GB DDR4 RAM
1TB nvme m.2 drive
NVidia 1080 FE
Software:
ESXi 6.7
Windows 10 64 bit client
Steps that have worked so far:
I can get a vm with GPU passthrough working. In order to do this, I had to:
Upgrade the BIOS to the beta version (AGESA update)-- otherwise VM won't power up.
The mystical hypervisor.cpuid in the vm configuration, to avoid error 43 in the NVIDIA drivers in windows.
Edit passthru.map (I'm using d3d0, not bridge; others have used link).(On my former build not doing this yields complete host hang when restarting a VM.)
Turned on all IOMMU options, ACP , SVM in BIOS.
VM must use BIOS, otherwise hangs at Windows loading if USB passthrough is enabled.
The board has 3 USB controllers that I can see. Each appears associated with two other devices, a "nonessential device" and a platform security processor in addition to the controller itself.
I can't get the aquantia 10GB ethernet to pass through, not that I've tried very hard. It seems to get stuck at "enabled but needs to reboot" despite infinite reboots.
Current problem:
I can pass through a USB controller and it works fine. If I then shut down or reboot the VM, it hangs on windows logo when starting again. From a cold boot, no problems.
Things that haven't worked:
Changing PCIE switch mode in BIOS to Gen 2 instead of Auto.
Idea: Perhaps the USB controllers on this board (AMD Family 17H USB 3.0 controller?) also need to use d3d0 rebooting? Seems strange, but the bug is reminiscent of what the consumer NVIDIA boards do when not switched to bridge mode.
Hope my experience has been helpful to others and any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks "LT"
I checked my VMFS and it had lots of errors. I decided to fix errors with the "fix" option.
However, voma doesn't support fixing VMFS-6. What can I do about it? How can I fix it?

Hello everyone,
I ask your help because I'm encountering a trouble under Vmware Workstation 14.1.2 and I can't resolve it ...
I'm on NAT network with these parameter :
Network card : VMnet8
Subnet IP : 10.0.0.0
Gateway IP : 10.0.0.1
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
I got two VM running :
Windows Server 2016 With Active Directory and DNS Modules
IP : 10.0.0.2
Gateway : 10.0.0.1
DNS : 127.0.0.1(local dns) & 8.8.8.8(google)
Centos 6.9 Minimal server
IP : 10.0.0.3
Gateway : 10.0.0.2
DNS : 10.0.0.2
When i'm on the windows VM, I can ping www.google.fr successfully without drop but when i'm trying to do the same on the centos VM, i got always drop on the ping.
nslookup work successfully on both server to get the ip of www.google.fr so it's not a problem of DNS. (look at attachment)
Someone have a solution?
is Orchestrator 7.1 supported for vCenter 6.5 plugin 6.5.0.4132889? I have that in my environment and tested a couple of workflows which worked, though the VMware compatibility matrix states that you need at least vRO 7.2 to work with vSphere 6.5, are there any known issues?
