okay, this issues troubled me for a while...(under the same configuration and server infrastructure)

i don't know why the client1 VM suddenly start to hanging and failing (to get gust info) at the "VMmark Setup" stage with the following messages:(as shown in figure below)

Client1 : Get Guest Info did not run correctly

Info: Get Linux guest information completed : Client1

Guest Info failures for the following machines: 1 machines : Client1 Error Messages Client1=:

client1.jpg

i've tried the following troubleshoot steps in the primeclient VM:

1. use staf ping ping to check the client1, it responded with PONG

2. double-check the /etc/hosts file, the client1 IP matched

3. re-provision the client1 VM (from tile0), problem is still the same and no help

4. restart the client1 VM, still can't solve the issue

5. under the /root/weathervane folder, couldn't find useful log to check

6. the VMmark3-STAX_Job_2_User-Parsed.log (and other logs) showed no further details about this issue.(in the results folder)

b.t.w this glitch only occurred on my client1 VM all the time while other client VMs are working just fine.

can anyone help?

How to hide a tab in a Xaas form ?

Hi,

I'm currently working with vRealize Automation 7.4.0 and vRealize Orchestrator 7.4.0 and I didn't find any way to hide a tab in a vRA Xaas.

Nevertheless, I know that it is possible as the "CodeStream" tool provided by VMware itself is able to.

There are two tabs in this Xaas at the time of it's opening :

two tabs at xaas opening.PNG

As soon as you select options on the second tab, more tabs appear :

new tabs appearing as the checkboxes are enabled.PNG

Editing the Xaas did not show anything that could explain this capability : the tab *seems* the same than those I use.

Can some give me a clue about how it is doable ?

I suspect that there is a more capable Xaas editor than the one I'm currenlty using in vRA ;-)

Thanks a lot for your help and ideas !

smbios system sku number

I am trying to deploy an appliance image in to a VM that depends on the smbios "System SKU Number" being populated. Currently in a default VM that property reports as "Not Specified" and there does not appear to be a method to override that with the vmx file for the VM. I'm assuming that is because the default bios.440.rom does not have that property listed in its DMI Strings so it cannot be modified in order to produce a custom ROM to be used with the bios440.fileName vmx directive. Is there a way to populate the smbios system sku number in a VM?

Not able to add TPM to Win10 VM

I see that v14 now supports virtual TPM. But when I create and add test Win10 VM's, the "Finish" button to add TPM is greyed out. I've read somewhere that this is because my host doesn't support TPM... don't know if that's true.

My host is Lenovo P50 with TPM and Win10 Enterprise running on it. No matter what option I play with in the settings of the VM, I just can't seem to enable the virtual TPM.
Anyone succeeded in this? Thanks

Microsoft Edge and Persona Management issues

We are struggling with Microsoft modern apps and Persona Management. We get working all what we need but Microsoft Edge is a beast...

If the folder "AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe" is roam with PM, Edge open and close immediately. Something seems to prevent Edge to be modified by an external process. The copy procedure from Persona share to user profile at login time seems to break something.

Have you figure out how to use Edge with PM?

Hi,

I need to turn on proactive HA functionality but I am not getting option to turn it ON.

I have followed the following steps:-

1. I have created the datacenter and  cluster

2. Added hosts inside cluster.

3.Turn on vsphere DRS.

4. click on cluster->vsphere Availablity->edit

But here I am getting only 4 options(failures and Response, Admission control,Heartbeat datastores,Advanced options) here.

I am using vsphere 6.5 HTML verison.

vmware fusion 8.5 and 10 have keyboard issues in VM running on high sierra

After using a Windows VM for a dozen minutes or so, it appears that pressed keys are repeated in the buffer.

We end up typing wrong text and the only way to solve it is to click outside the VM Window and click back inside which seems to clear the keyboard buffer.

I've upgraded to Fusion 10 but the issue remains.

It did not happen under previous version of macOS, only under High Sierra.

Problems running nested ESXi on top of NSX

$

Hi,

I am running a lab made of 3 ESXi host with VSAN and NSX. Everything works fine, I'm running a whole bunch of VMs in there for testing purpose and all is well.

Recently, I ran into a weird problem when trying to nest three ESXi (I'll call them ESX1, ESX2 and ESX3) on a NSX logical switch that is connected to an edge gateway. Forged transmit and MAC address change are enabled on the dvs port group created for the logical switch. While trying to set them up, I realized that I am losing a whole bunch of packet when trying to communicate with these VMs from the outside (layer 3) and between them (layer 2). I lose up to 50-70% of the packets but not all.

And the whole thing is behaving weirdly:

- All the VMs were supposed to run on separate host (one on each physical host) with an anti-affinity DRS rule

- The VMs are reachable through an edge gateway and a physical router/firewall (Fortigate). Basically, from my workstation to one of these VMs, traffic goes like that: Workstation --> Fortigate --> Transit subnet --> Edge Gateway --> VMs. All of my labs are setup like that, without any problems so far. Even if there is firewall, there isn't any filtering between my workstation and the labs

- The edge gateway is running on another management cluster which is part of the same vCenter and NSX. All of my edges (4 of them) for all of my labs are running that way from that cluster and everything is running fine. As far as I know, there is no problem with my NSX installation.

- When pinging the nested ESX from the outside (my workstation, L3), ESX3 always has only 5-10% packets lost while the other 2 are around 50-70%. That VMs has always the same level of packet loss, no matter on which host it is located.

- When you ping between them (L2), there is always at least 50-70% packet lost, no matter where the VMs are located.

- If you place another VMs (ESX1 or ESX2) on the same host with ESX3 that has only 5-10% packet loss, automatically that VMs (ESX1 or ESX2) will start losing only 5-10% packet, same as ESX3

- If you place all the VMs on the same host, you get absolutely no packet lost when pinging them from the outside (L3), no matter which of the three hosts are running them. But you still get around 50-70% packet loss between them (L2)

- If I also ping from ESX1 or ESX2 to my workstation while pinging from the workstation to the ESX, I got a much lower packet loss (5-10%). No matter where the VM is located or if it is on the same host with ESX3. Packet loss goes back to 50-70% as soon as I stop the ping from the ESX to the workstation.

I tried a lot of things to pinpoint the source of the problems:

- Tried some capture using the available NSX tools, didn't get much except that when the ping doesn't work at L2, the VMs is actually search for the MAC address of the neighbour host it is trying to ping

- Tried removing the IP discovery functionality from the logical switch, thought it might have caused an ARP problem with the Forged transmit. Didn't change anything

- Moved the VM around and tried every possible combination of placement between the host to arrive at conclusion above

I also found two post depicting relatively similar problem with nested ESX on top of NSX:

From the dept of the knowledge arcane: NSX-v with nested ESXi | Telecom Occasionally

NSX and nested ESXi environments: caveats and layer-2 troubleshooting – vLenzker

The problem is, both of these article talks about running nested ESXi AND nested NSX on top of NSX, which cause a problem with the physical ESXi dropping packet from the VXLAN. The point is, I am not running NSX inside the nested ESXi, only simple vSwitch.

So, I'm kind of out of idea where to look next now and I am also getting of of idea/possible correlation.

Anyone with a suggestion?

Thank you!

My remote Replication appliance is showing Enabled(Configuration issue) when I hover over it I see the message: "The VRMS Solution user is missing or outdated. Visit the vSphere Replication VAMI and reconfigure the appliance". When I go to configure the appliance everything looks ok. Can't find much on vmware kb on this, anyone know what this means?

I rebooted the replication appliance and it went to Enabled (Ok) for awhile but then went back to "configuration error"

Sync computer accounts still has old machines

Hi All,

Currently playing in my DEV environment.

Which is running AppVolumes 2.14

My Production is running AppVolumes 2.13.2 but I seem to have over 5000 machines even tho I only have 300 online working.

So doing a test in DEV before we deploy to production.

Currently I have 24 machines running online so to make sure the Database is fine I created multiple desktop pools to get the numbers up I currently have 85 machines.

So I have deleted my test pools and should be back to only 24 machines again but each time the system Syncs with AD its syncing 85 machine even tho we only have 24 ??

Now my Home page on Appvolumes shows Computer Utilization 85 machines which I’m expecting that number to come down to 24 again.

Am I doing something wrong here I thought Appvolumes 2.13.3 had this issue sorted or at least now 2.14.

Thanks in advanced

Hi!

I made a vSphere Machine blueprint and checked the "Display location on request" box.

Since the custom forms are so much nicer I activated the form but I can't find the "Display location on request" in the Blueprint Elements.

Does anyone know how to add that field in a custom form?

Thanks!

Is there any way to invoke a host profile remediate on a vmhost via PowerCLI?

When I use Invoke-VMHostProfile on a newly installed host the profile is applied to the host but there are multiple issues still open until I remediate the host via the webclient.
