Controller schwenkt nicht (Fail Over)

Hallo zusammen,

Accessing Workstation 14 using the vSphere 6.5 Client SDK

I asked this over in the Workstation forum and realized it may be better answered here...

I have a stand alone client that I wrote that accesses a workstation and performs various actions on the VM (start/stop, copy file, execute program) using the VIX implementation.  Recently, I was asked to transition the VIX implementation over to a vSphere 6.5 SDK implementation.  I'm able to handle the power operations just fine, but I can't get any of the guest operations to work using the vSphere Client SDK 6.5.  All of the examples I've found say to get the guestOperationsManager managed object reference.  However, when I attempt to do that, it comes back null and there isn't a way to create one that I've found.

Are there things missing in Workstation that exist in vSphere?  Is what they are asking for even possible?

vSAN 2 node direct connect setup all health checks pass on cluster but witness host cannot communicate with the nodes in vSAN enabled cluster

Sorry for the long subject line, but I wanted to be clear on the issue.

I have deployed vCenter 6.7, and I have two HP DL360 Gen 10 boxes that I'm installing vSphere 6.7 on.  These 2 boxes have hardware that is all on the HCL, and I'm using 4 SSDs in each of them for vSAN.  This includes the 2 port 10Gb adapter that is direct connected between the two.

I have logged into each of the hosts and set the management interface to also carry the vSAN witness traffic.  The vSan witness box is in a different VLAN and in a different Site, but the connection is definitely sufficient according to the documentation, it's got 100Mbps with rtt averaging around 10ms.

I just setup my vSAN cluster, and everything on the cluster in health is passing checks, however shortly after the build the witness server throws two warnings:

Host cannot communicate with one or more other nodes in the vSAN enabled cluster

Host with vSAN service enabled is not in the vCenter cluster

I can ping the witness server from either of the two nodes in the cluster, and from the same vlan I can ping back to the two servers, so I'm not sure why these warnings are showing up.

Also I can't put the hosts in the cluster in maintenance mode since the witness server can't communicate with them.

I thought it might be to do with routing, even though the default routes in my network should handle it.  I created routes on the two esxi servers to direct their traffic to the witness host through the default gateway, but this had no effects.

I am attempting to configure Skyline. I am in the vCenter configuration section. I have put in the vCenter address and filled out the RO user credentials. When I click Continue I see: The certificate provided by your vCenter is not valid (Certificate Thumbprint [1c1e2085ca8fa309e5dcad61b145ec89964e3a99]).

Press "CONTINUE" if you would like to continue using an invalid certificate

I press Continue and I get: Endpoint test failed. I have an separate VM with the  PSC/SSO. I have tried using the Custom SSO configuration both on and off with the same results.

Shrinking Linux VM Created by Converter - P2V

$

Hello All,

I know this has been asked many times. But, every link/discussion I find has a different answer, and I'm not sure which one is the right one. And a lot of them depend on the VM being thin-provisioned, which this is not...

I recently moved to a Windows 10 machine from a OpenSuSE machine. Since Linux is my go to, I decided to convert my old laptop to a VM using the VMWare Standalone Converter and a Trail Version of ESXi 6. Now, I have the VM converted to a Virtual Machine within my ESXi trail VM. The end-game is to export the VM to Workstation Player.

The physical machine that I converted had 300 GB for '/' partition, which I don't need all that space anymore. I was able to get the used partition down to about 40 GB on the VM, and I was hoping to get the partition shrunk down to about, maybe 60 GB (*from currently 300 GB).

I read you can use the Standalone Converter to do v2v to shrink the partition, however in the converter I don't seem to have that option to shrink the disk, from what I can tell.

Here is what the disk looks like inside the VM:

*The partition numbers seem strange because the P2V was a dual-boot windows/linux laptop and I only wanted the Linux partitions...

     sda1 = /boot

     sda6 = /

     sda5 = swap

Could someone help me out for what I need to do to shrink down the ' / ' partition, i.e. sda6?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

Matt

VMWare ESXi host lost connection after setting NIC to 1000Mbps

$

I was setting up some new networking setting on my main home server with ESXi 6.5, and I noticed the speed wasn't what I would expect, and found the ethernet speeds where set to 100mbps, so I set it to 1000mbps and since then, it doesn't seem to be able to connect anymore. I looked through the router and such and it should support 1000mbps, but it doesn't even assign any of the nics any DCHP IPs on the network, so there is no communication. The ILO3 adapter works fine, but I can't  access the VMware UI with no web connection, is there anyway to get the UI on the host machine, or tell it to only use 100mbps via commands from the machine?

Hostname of VCSA 5.5 showing IP Instead of FQDN

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade vCenter from 5.5 to 6.5 using command line but during precheck my script is showing IP instead FQDN and below warning when I check hostname I see FQDN.

I still no clue what is the reason.

Pre-upgrade check warning: 1. Title: Host name 192.168.xx.xx is not DNS

resolvable, but matches the machine certificates. If you do not configure a

valid DNS resolvable hostname mapping, then you might not be able to connect to

the vCSA afterwards

Migrate VMs from vCenter to another without downtime

Hello,

We are planning to prepare a new environment with new hardware (hosts & storage) and new vCenter server with latest version (also deploy NSX on this environment).

And we have an existing environment with old hardware and storage with a vcenter 6.0.

At the end of the new deployment we have to move the VMs from current vCenter to new One without any down time.

what is the configuration needed between the two vCenters, and how the migration should be applied ?

Please advise,

vCenter 6.0 Issues

$

I'll preface this with the fact that my VMWare knowledge is very limited. I know how to use vSphere and connect to a host to make simple changes. The issue is, for one of our clients we have a vCenter set up and we have Veeam backing it up. Backups started to fail with authentication errors, so I tried connecting to vCenter via vSphere and received login errors as well. I rebooted the vCenter, and now I receive 503 errors if I try to login via vSphere or the web.

After searching online, I saw documentation saying this could be caused by the storage being full. I tried allocating more storage from the host, but the host is being managed by the vCenter I guess so it won't let me. I was able to access it by it's IP:5480 but it logged me out immediately every time. Connected to it via shell by editing the boot sequence and accessing shell, then resetting the root pw and setting it to never expire. I could then login and it alerted me storage was low there too. I enabled SSH and connected to it and checked it using df -h. It was using 100% storage, and it appeared most was coming from the storage/logs. I cleared it out using info from KBs and now I'm at 53% usage. I also ran an update from the 5480 page and now it says there are no more, the current version is 6.0.0.30500.

I saw a forum post mentioning that someone fixed it by upgrading it to 6.5. Well I downloaded the installer and attempted this, but it won't connect to it to upgrade it.

Also just tried this but it didn't work:

Unable to Connect to VCSA - Unknown Connection Error (503 Server Unavailable)

I still have the same errors, but I can access it via SSH. I confirmed the IP and the loopback are listed in the hosts file. I've restarted all the services I could find.. I've attached some screenshots and I also pulled the vm-support package but it's over 12 GB and I'm not sure how to get anyone access to it as this would take two weeks to upload on their network. I also have no idea how to read these so any insight on what I need to check here would help too! I feel like it might be a simple fix, but I've read through so many articles and forum posts and I have no idea what I'm missing here.

Thank you ahead of time!

Recently I want to learn how to deploy Hrizon, but only one computer, so I can only use VMware Workstation to virtualize a Windows Server 2012R2, but the problem involving AD, this is not yet understood, so I would like to ask everyone, in addition to the client How many servers are required to deploy Hrizon?

vmotion times out at 20%

Situation is this...

vSphere 6

I have about a dozen VMs that fail at 20% when trying to vmotion. VMware Tools is up to date. I have three hosts in a cluster and the problem is not specific to any one host. I have cloned these VMs and the issues persists on the clones suggesting the problem is with a VM config or possibly within the guest OS. Most of the VMs on these host are not experiencing any issues during vmotion. The physical network is good.
