Being still new to Mirage, could someone explain the fine differences between these three operations? They sort of seem to really do the same thing, that is, get a base layer to a CVD. I'm sure that there must be particular situations where you do one rather than the other - I would really appreaciate if someone would let me know if I have the right ideas here or if I should be doing this a different way:
Situation 1: We receive a bunch of new computers which will replace older ones in our inventory. The computers have a basic Windows 7 installation on them. I deploy the Mirage client to them, they appear in Pending Devices, and I select Base Layer Provisioning, then apply any appropriate App Layers.
Situation 2: Our current computers need to be updated and joined to our Mirage inventory. The computers have been used all year by our staff, and we want to apply a fresh image to them. Do I use Assign Base Layer? Do I perform Base Layer Provisioning? I'm pretty sure that I don't want to perform Centralize Endpoint because I don't want their comptuers, in their current state, to be uploaded to the server. Or is it preferrable to perform the Centralize Endpoint first, then send down the new Base Layer (again, provision or assign?)
Do I need to perform the Centralize Endpoint after I perform Base Layer Provisioning or Assign Base Layer, or does the upload of the CVD cover that?
Thank you in advance for any clarification you can provide!
