vRA 7.2 Deployment description change
Hi!
Does anybody know how to change/edit "Deployment" description after provisioning? End-user can easy change/add VMs description after deployment (using "Reconfigure" task), but I don't see any options to edit Deployment description... I haven't been lucky with vRO/REST API, looks like no methods/functions exists to update already deployed object VCACCAFE:CatalogResource (I'll be happy to be wrong on it). Could not believe that so obvious function is missing in vRA.

In VRO plugin, when find and findAll methods will be invoked?
In VRO plugin, an API is invoked from JS file (using OGNL option) to return a list of matching files (matching keyword is provided as an input parameter).
However, the drop down is listing all files from the VM instead of listing only matched files. It looks like find() is invoked by default and returning the list.
While typing the first character in input text box, find() gets invoked to load all files; not sure how it got invoked. is it a default behavior to load all objects of the requested type?
Please clarify when this find() will be called. As am new to this, couldn't get a pointer here.

Host is looking for Wrong Key Encryption Keys when trying to Enable Encryption on the host
Hello,
We've been testing KMS servers in our lab. The last solution that was tested before I came on board was HyTrust. We have since moved to another product. The problem I'm having is that I cannot enable encryption to utilize the new KMS server because there is some sort of relic encryption key that is persisting on the esxi host.
Here is my error:
The last operation failed for the entity with the following error message.
RuntimeFault.summary
"Key XXXXXXXXXXXX/HyTrust_DataControl not found";
So far I've performed the following:
Put esxi host in maintenance mode
Remove from Inventory
Reboot
Add back to inventory
exit maintenance mode
Still cannot enable encryption. For some reason the KEKs? are persisting on the host. Not sure why but so far I have been unable to re-enable encryption after deleting the old HyTrust KMS and configuring a new solution.
So, the only thing I can assume is that there still might be an encrypted VM out there? If so, is there a programmatic or gui method for determining that?

Horizon 7 vROPS showing high latency
Hi
I have Horizon 7.2 environment on vSAN.
however at some times of days vdi desktops freezes and users reporting very slow performance.
below a screenshot from vrops showing roundtrip latency on a VDI desktop (this applies to other users as well) latency is reaching sometimes 600 ms!!!
Is there any tool i can monitor what is causing this latency ?? or to monitor traffic ?

unable to connect to endpoint _vcsa 6.0
Hi all ,
we have been facing issue wherein we were not able to connect to vcsa6.0 (embedded PSC)through web client .
error :unable to connect to endpoint.
after lot of troubleshooting with vmware we were able to login but empty inventory .
Iam not sure why vmware asked us to redeploy vcenter appliance .??
has anyone faced the same issue and help us to guide .

How to donwload vSphere license without downloading whole ISO's?

esxi host serial number
I know in the old fat client for vCenter 5.5 I could was able to see/input the serial number for the server, is that an option in the vCenter appliance 6.5 ?

View upgrade question
All,
question for best practice, i'm currently running vcenter 5.5u3 and view 5.3.1.
vcenter 5.5u3 will support every newer version of horizon view,
Horizon view 5.3.1 will not support above 5.5u3.
So the question I have is, should I upgrade from view 5.3.1 directly to 7.5 or stop somewhere in-between? I ask, as the notes for 7.5 say the latest release of 5.3 is supported for direct upgrade,
but I'm not the latest release, all paths show as latest release. i'm assuming i should stop at 6.2.6 and then leapfrog vcenter after that.

ВМ не стартует автоматически
На хосте стоит всего одна ВМ (называется VMfrac, WS2003x64, контроллер домена). Она не стартует автоматически после перезагрузки esxi, приходится после пропадания электричества стартовать эту ВМ вручную, ошибок при запуске вручную не выдаёт. Эта ВМ находится в Automatic Startup. Поставил для эксперимента ещё одну ВМ на этот хост, она благополучно автоматически стартует.
Хост ESXi-6.0.0-Update2-3620759-HPE на HP ML350 Gen5
Пробовал обновить VMware Tools - с 10.0.6 до 10.0.12 (последняя для WS2003)
Пробовал удалять из проблемной ВМ USB-контроллер и ключ 1С
Сравнивал настройки с другой ВМ WS2003 на другом хосте с таким-же esxi - одинаковы. Настройки смотрел и через vSphere Client и через веб-клиент.
Проблемная ВМ ставилась когда-то на esxi - 4.1, потом переехала на хост с esxi - 6.0, там получила HW version 11, оставила другой ВМ-ке два из четырёх своих дисков и вернулась на старый хост (на старом хосте к тому времени esxi - 4.1 был грохнут и поставлен esxi - 6.0)
Прилагаю vmkernel.log сразу после запуска хоста, когда вторая ВМ уже автоматически загрузилась, а проблемная ВМ - нет. И снимок экрана настроек запуска ВМ-ок.
Вопрос: что делать?

Is necessary change the CA in the Connection Servers?

Log Insight API, pull data from custom fields?
I am pulling data from Log Insight via the API and want to access custom fields that I created. I am only able to pull values from the default fields Log Insight came with. How can you access custom fields so that I don't have to parse through the logs for each field?

Slow logins? This might help...
We had major issues using Writable Volumes lately, logintimes were up to 3min or more where as normally we see logintimes as low as 17s (see attached pic) using Windows 10 and floating pools (measured using vROPS). Of course the the logintimes we had weren't that bad when comparing to others out here, but every info that could improve this might help.
After extensive contact with VMware Support we added below registry entries and logintimes were back to normal:
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" /v FeatureSettingsOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" /v FeatureSettingsOverrideMask /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f
Both entries have to do with Spectre patches applies to Windows 10 and in effect will disable parts of the patches: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ie/help/4072698/windows-server-guidance-to-protect-against-the-speculative-execution
These alterations also improved speed of the desktops without Writable Volumes considerably. Going up from 2 to 3 vCPU per desktop also improved logintimes for us, you might check how this impacts your environment.
You might try this out if you can accept the possible lowered security...

Sending emails to a group of users in a project - Expired VMs
Hello.
Is it possible to send e-mails to a group of people who are part of a team working on the VMs project provided by automation?
Example: VMs about to expire; VMs destroyed; Reconfiguration of VMs; ?
Is there any native option for this or do I have to change code, where can I make such a change if possible? Thank you.

Unable to continue with my skyline registration since it got timed out
I got interrupted by my colleague while I am getting my initial registration wizard done and I was up to step5(collector name) before it gets me timed out. I tried login back and even restarted the appliance but it doesn't want me to move future from step3 (link my VMware account), stating the account is already registered and the continue button is greyed out! Please help.

bug cloning P2V using Converter 6.2
When proceeding to cloning a Linux server, we identify an erratic behavior The OS version that was involve in this process was a RHEL 6.4 (Santiago), running on a physical server.
As the official VMWare documentation explain, when you proceed to virtualize a Linux system, the process has to create a VM called Helper, into the virtual environment.
During this process, we sniffing the communication, to understand ports and the whole connections required during these task, detect that the process started with the communication through the SSH protocol, between the physical RHEL and the Converter, and through port 443, between the Converter and the hypervisor side.
When the conversion process reaches the step to build the helper vm, the communication stops.
We proceeded to analyze the different logs/registers, and detected, that the build of vm helper never ended correctly, if we wanted to use a specific network in our virtual environment, which had different vlans tags, defined.
In the other hand, we have made, countless succeed P2V conversions in other networks before and the whole process finished in a successfully way
So, the next step was to identify the differences between this network configuration in our vSwitch and in our virtualization environment, with the rest of the networks in which we have made innumerable P2V conversions before.
The difference that appeared between this network and others that were configured in the virtual environment was that it had several vlans tags. Having identified this, we could understand that the problem was that the converter, which could not tag these vlans.
In other words, this was the root cause, and why the converter could not finish the construction of the virtual Helper machine in our virtual environment.

ESXi 6.7, USB3.0 and SSD
Hi there,
I am running ESXi 6.7 on my Dell T130 using a Sabrent USB 3.0 to SSD cable connected to a 250gb SSD drive. During the installation of ESXI, it found the SSD drive and installed fine. Now in the VMWare web console I cannot see the drive under storage. Any ideas how I can enable this?

Problem when converting a VM
Hello everybody !
First thing: it's my first message here so I hope I will do it right; and for the moment I am not sure of posting in the good section.
If it not the case, just let me informed.
So, my problem is this one: I convert my primary (and alone) AD server from P2V with Converter Standalone 4.3.0. No problem happend during the conversion. Because I had no other server, I choose a conversion to workstation VM.
Then I install on the server (A Dell PowerEdge T300) VMWare ESXi vSphere 5.0 and it works good.
I install also in a VM (Windows Server 2008 R2) vCenter Server 5.0.
Now, when I want to convert the AD Server into a infrastructure machine, impossible. Each time I have this error: "Invalid fault".
The VM was located on a NAS configured with NFS, I moved it to my own computer (where I run the converter), and the same thing happened.
I posted the logs it let me download. I hope somebody will be able to help me.
