ESXi 6.5 Upload auf Datenspeicher schlägt fehl (startet nach x% immer neu)

Ich habe einen ESXi Server 6.5 (6.5.0 Update 2 (Build 8294253) auf einer "Vanilla Box" installiert. Das Motherboard ist ein Asus Z97-A. Zusätzlich habe ich aus dem V-Front Online Depot die Treiber net-igb und sata-xahci geladen. Zwei SATA Plattten sind angeschlossen darauf lassen sich auch "Datenspeicher"  anlegen. Netzwerktreiber (angezeigt im Client) ist ne1000.

 

Problem: Beim Versuch, ein ISO Image auf einen der beiden Datenspeicher hochzuladen, bricht der Transfer immer wieder bei unterschiedlichen Übertragungslevel ab und startet neu. --> Keine Nutzung möglich

 

Ein Versuch, statt des sata-xahci Treibers den integrierten vmw-ahci zu nutzen, brachten keine Änderung.

 

Wie und wo kann ich den Fehler suchen?

When trying to upgrade a VM from macOS 10.12.6 to 10.13.4, getting error

On VMWare Fusion, I have a VM with macOS 10.12.6 (Sierra) and I'm trying to upgrade it to 10.13.4 (Newest High Sierra).

When the install begins, it asks to choose a partition.

When trying to choose the only partition I have ("Macintosh HD"), a tooltip error pops up:

"You may not install to this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition."

 

This VM is almost empty, with no tweaking of the hardware parameters.

The Fusion version is 10.1.1

 

Has anyone experienced this?

VMwaretools and Windows RDS

Hi this is kind of a best practice question for VMware tools and Windows 2008R2 RDS (on ESX 6.5 hosts).  The company I work at had previously setup a Group Policy for the RDS servers that would uninstall VMware User Process.  One of the other admins said it was setup years ago because of issues with RDS.  I have never heard of this has anyone else?

Cisco CSR1000v ova - A required disk image is missing

Hello all

 

I'm trying to run a Cisco CSR1000V ova on a vmware esxi 6.5 server.

 

The OVA launches successfully from my VMWorkstation with no issues.

 

I have downloaded 6.5 update2, and installed it on a server, however, on connecting to this server from chrome, and then create new VM -> Deploy from OVA. I then give the VM a name, and drag the ova into the window. There then doesn't seem like sufficient time for the file to copy for the server, and after selecting all of the default options the message 'a required disk image is missing'

 

If I then click finish, the machine will not boot with the error 'operating system not found'

Should you still really only have (1)vCPUs in 2012R2 templates?

I know this has probably been discussed a lot, but I have been browsing and having trouble getting a clear answer.  It sounds like with CPU scheduling that it is fine to go ahead and make your base VM templates with 1 socket, 2 cores.  I have always thought by starting with 2 cores, it would be easier to add more(there is a disclaimer still there about unstable OS and I think that is the switch from 1 vCPU to mutii, but that was years ago).  Does anyone have any newer references that say with that it is still highly advisable to go with only a single vCPU in your templates?

Import Lists of VMs with Different Column Titles

I need to run scripts against multiple csv input files and get lists of VMs.  However I'm running an issue.  My script is like this:

 

$path = "c:\inputfile.csv"

Import-Csv -Path $path -UseCulture | foreach{

$vmname = $_.vmname

get-vm $vmname}

 

However the problem is that the input files have multiple different column names for VMname. Some input files have VMname, some have Systemname, hostname, servername, server or VM as the column title for the VM name.

 

How can I modify my script so that I assign the $vmname to whichever of these column titles is used?

PowerCLI 6.3 changes with VimClient.Connect() for C# - SSL/TLS Error

I have been developing a c# app and was using the VMWare.Vim DLL from PowerCLI 6.0. I updated my PowerCLI and now i am unable to connect to the vCenter. The connection now throws an error of "The underlying connection was closed: could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel". I never had this problem before i upgraded PowerCLI. Is there a way to disable checking the certificate?

Snapshot report

Hi,

I have few methods to report some snapshots from my enviroment:

First method:

Get-VM | %{$vm = $_.Name ; $_ | Get-Snapshot | Where { $_.Name -like "auto-*"} | Measure-Object | %{write-host $vm $_.Count}}

VM Name      Snapshots with "auto" in name

VM1                                 2

VM2                                1

With this method I can get what I want: VM name and number of snapshots with "auto" word found in name but exporting to HTML only generate a blank file

Second method:

$ss = Get-vm | Get-Snapshot
#$ss | Select-Object vm, name, description, powerstate | ConvertTo-HTML -head $a -body "<H2>VM Snapshot Report</H2>"| Out-File $filename

This method is working but I'm able to get only VM name on one column and each snapshot with name from each VM.

 

I've already tried all kind of tricks to generate a report with VM name on one column and number of snapshots with "auto" in name but none of this are working.

Mac os 10.7.5

I need to have my mac run a Roland wide format printer SJ-600.  I could not find the drivers for the older operation system but there seems to be lots of drivers available  in windows, so decided to download VM Fusion.  The version I down loaded is to new as well and I did not see an older version on the site so not sure where to find it.  I had Fushion years ago and I ran Flexi Sign Pro with it and adobe illustrator but it appears to be corrupted and not working.  Any suggestions out there for my issue ?

steps to set up new vmware enviroment

Here is the situation: We just have one box to run the host and virtual machines.

My plan is: 1. install the host by loading the VMvisor file into the host machine and configure on the workstation or the host machine itself. 2. use vsphere client to access the host and to create virtual machine.

Am I right?

 

My question is how to load vcenter without operating system as was told that we do not need o/s to install vcenter. I am lost. Do I miss anything?

Dear All

 

I want to Migrate our Windows vCenter server 6.0U3  to vCSA 6.5

When i trying to run VMware-Migration Assistant on Windows vCenter server, It's Failed

 

I have this error

 

Initializing Migration Assistant...

Migration to VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.5 is only supported from vCenter Server versions 5.5 and 6.0.

No supported products were found on this machine.

Proactive rebalance via RVC (vsan.proactive_rebalance)

Hello,

I just started dabbling with vsan.proactive_rebalance as it gives me much better control over a proactive rebalance versus performing the rebalance via the vsphere web client.

 

Question:  Does anyone know what the default --rate-threshold is when performing the rebalance via the web client?  Is this configurable?  I'm just trying to ensure that when I run it via RVC it runs at a faster rate than from the web client. (Right now I'm just kind of guessing and monitoring, 200GB/Hour, 1TB/Hour, etc.)

Latest Dell R730 2.80 bios breaks vMotion

Hi. We are still on v6.5U1, I think some hotfixes. And have applied the latest Dell R730 bios which mitagates variant 3 or 4 of meltdown. However any VM that powers on that host, cannot be vMotion off. Incompatibilty hardware warning given. I guess I was under the false assumption that EVC mode should have kept the cpu changes on the new Bios from propagating to the hosts? We were going to get the new Bios rolled out, and then rollout v6.5U2 vCenter, and then the v6.5U2 on the hypervisors. Now I am a bit confused as to what is going on. I may just have to attempt to revert the firmware back on this 1 host we did first. I am hoping someone can educate me. Thanks,,,

Anyone move to NSX v6.41 yet?

Hi. We are on NSX v6.35, and are thinking of moving to v6.41 for future v6.7 support. We are only v6.5U1 right now, debating on whether to continue our upgrade cycle with v6.5U2 or v6.7.

 

A couple of questions, I know NSX v6.41 just came out, but was curious if anyone has had any experiece with any issues? We are greenfield luckily but about to put in production.

 

I was also curious how reliable the upgrade is. Do hosts ever get stuck upgrading and actually have to reboot or anything? While NSX is greenfield, the NSX clusters are not and have production workloads. We of course will move those workloads to an NSX logical soon.

 

So in short.

1. I suppose its too early to tell if v6.41 is reliable.

2. We have never done an NSX upgrade. It looks like lots of room for trouble. Have they been trouble free for most?

When trying to copy a large VM (800+ Gb), the process consistently fails

Hi. I need to resize a large VM (800+ Gb). The file was created as a fixed size. I need to copy it to a large USB drive so that I can resize it. However, each time I try the process fails when the copy reaches 300 Gb. I'm running the latest version of macOS High Sierra; the VM is running Windows 10 (build 1803). There are no errors using the VM. Is there a way to test it and correct for errors? Is there a way to copy a file this large? Is there a way to change the file from fixed size to dynamic?

NVidia Grid, VMware 6.7, Horizon 7.5, Tesla M10, vGPU profile problem

We are running 4 Dell servers R740xd

We have 4 Tesla M10 cards 1 in each server

We have installed VMware 6.7

We have installed the NVidia grid vSphere 6.7-390.57-391.58 software in our ESXi hosts

 

When I do a nvidia-smi I see the driver is loaded and everything there looks good.

 

However when I try and add the PCI Device NVidia Grid vGPU (edit settings on the VM) the vGPU profile pull down box is empty.

 

I’m unsure on how to fix this problem. I would love some help fixing it.

Skyline Report Number of Findings Not Accurate

I have a Skyline word report that states for a specific finding the Number of Findings = 13. When I review the rules spreadsheet for the specific finding it only lists 3 ESXi hosts for the finding.

 

Why is the Number of Findings inaccurate in the word report, is this a know issue, and is there anything I can do to fix this?

App Volume Question

I've got a question about App Volumes that probably has already been answered. I searched really did not see anything.

 

So. I want to create a new appstack. I create the appstack on the server. Fire up the capture desktop and attach it for provisioning.

 

Here is my problem. I have an application that just needs to be copied into a folder and and shortcut placed on the desktop. No EXE or MSI to install anything.

 

I can't get AppVolumes to capture this and create a AppStack.

 

Any suggestions?  The only way to get it working is to have it in the golden image.

IPv4 Address for VMkernel network adapters

Good Morning,

 

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere. We are currently running vCenter Server v5.5. I right-click on one of our distributed switches and go here:

 

Add and Manage Hosts > Manage host networking > Attach hosts > Select network adapter tasks > Manage physical network adapters > Manage VMkernel network adapters

 

I then click on the VMkernel network adapter for a particular host and select Edit adapter > IPv4 settings.

 

I noticed that the IPv4 address is the same for this VMkernel network adapter on every host in the cluster that is utilizing this distributed switch. Is this normal (and is it okay)? We have not been experiencing any networking issues related to this.
