Migration of data to new vSphere Datacenter

$

We are moving from vSphere 5.0 to vSphere 6.7 with vSAN.

we are running two different vCenters

what i would like to do is add our current Tegile SAN to our new vSphere 6.7

i would turn off the VM on our older vSphere 5.0 and remove it from vCenter. then on the new vCenter i would add it. then migrate it over to our vSAN.

i have heard that this is a problem because the data might get corrupted. because the old SAN would be on two different Data centers the LUN would be presented to both old and new ESXi Hosts.

they have said the only way to do this would be to turn off all of the vm's on the old lun, then unmap it to the old ESXi hosts. then map it to the NEW ESXi hosts.

Where exactly do internal users need to connect to...?

$

Hi all,

I thought I had this one figured out but another doubt has clouded my understanding.

I understood that, if I had multiple IDM appliances installed in the DMZ (behind a Load balancer) and IDM Connectors installed in the internal network, then internal users would need to connect to the URL of the Load Balancer in the DMZ (they would need to connect to the IDM appliances in the DMZ and not the IDM Connectors).

Is that correct?

Or does the user actually need to connect to the IDM Connector and they will be redirected through the web socket without needing to connect directly to the IDM appliance?

I ask that because there is no Load balancer in the internal network for the IDM Connectors so the user would need one of 2 things I believe:

1. Connect to a single IDM Connector but then they would have problems if that appliance was down for whatever reason

2. Configure an internal DNS Round-Robin type of setup where the user could connect to a single URL and internally that URL would be related to multiple IDM Connectors?

Anyone can help me with my doubt please (where exactly does an internal user need to connect to be able to open the Workspace portal?)?

Regards

Mark

Windows 2003 VCB with netbackup and Hitachi VSP provisionning

Hi,

We have a Hitachi VSP and using the hitachi application "Storage navigator" we create a host group named "vmware" and we set this up with host mode (01-Vmware). All esx hosts sees the LUNs and we are able to migrate vrtual machines from our older SAN to the Hitachi.

My problem is that the Windows server use for Netbackup have to see the ESX  luns datastores in order to backup the vmdks. I checked at Hitachi support sites and I found nothing concerning this. Someone can help me with the procedure?

I use device manager and storage navigator as provisionning tools for the Hitachi VSP.

Thank you

Using VM converter to restore Solaris full VM

Hi,

I use vcbmounter script to backup all my vm's, Windows and Solaris. When I use VMware converter on little VM, (-+25G) everything is fine, but when I want to do a full VM restore with a Huge VM I get a failed. Also I restore on a giggy ethernet and it takes lots of time to restore. Even if the virtuals disks are empty. I upgraded to the last version of Converter (3.03) and still the same issues. Anyone came across those problemes? Any other way of restoring a full VM is velcome.

Thank you

Specific Folder Redirection paths

Is there a way to specify paths for the redirected folders? I'm trying to migrate away from GPO folder redirection because I've found with Windows 10 using UEM redirection instead can shave off a good 10 or 15 seconds of log on time, for some reason. But, Windows GPO folder redirection is different. It has pathing as such:

\\filesserver\username\My Documents\

\\filesserver\username\My Documents\My Music

\\filesserver\username\My Documents\My Pictures

\\filesserver\username\My Documents\My Videos

Whereas UEM wants to do this:

\\filesserver\username\Documents

\\filesserver\username\Pictures

\\filesserver\username\Music

\\filesserver\username\Videos

Is there a way to override that to maintain my current structure?

VIO 3.1 upgrade to 4.1

Hi,  we upgraded from VIO 3.0 to 3.1, and now trying to upgrade to 4.1.  The 4.1 OVA deployed ok and we have the new Openstack plugin in vCenter.  Followed the VIO 4.1 documetation and used NFS to backup 3.1 and upgrade 4.1 management server.  vCenter VMWare Integrated Opentack Summary tab shows version 4.1, but when we try to right click on the VIO 3.1 deployment, all the options are grayed out, and hence not able to perform the "Upgrade" process.  Anyone had seen similar issue before?

Two domains and Issues

Have UEM setup in my Primary domain and is working pretty well.  I need to set it up in my secondary domain (hospital side) and utilize some of UEM's power.  As i try to set it up I can get it to work somewhat but no logs are getting updated.  I can see teh desktop icons getting to the desktops adn i can see the applications that i have assigned but when i look at the log file to see what teh issues are, there are NO logs. All the users and groups have the appropriate rights adn i can manually log on to that server/share and add and delete files.  I can't quite figure out what is going on but none of my test users will work properly.  Is there something that i am missing in the setup??  All the appropriate users and groups have a access to the correct folders. (UEM_Profiles, Uem_config, and Uem_Redirected profiles.  Can someone give me a hint as to what i am doing wrong?  Any help is appreciated

Hello guys. Can anyone help me on this problem? Is there anyone who has configured VCSA that sends mail through any mail relay?

I also tried to use IIS SMTP to see if it was a HMAILSERVER problem but the problem is the same: the other machines send mail to the office365 mail server ,while the virtualcenter fails.

I have read the logs from VirtualCenter: Var / mail / message:[ Note in the meantime I changed the name of the mail server in hmail.xxx.xx.it  ,ip is the same 10.122.6.189]

At this point it seems almost certain that the problem is in the VirtualCenter. It is right that it is relay = localhost.localdom?

This is the IIS SMTP Log .

ln green the log of the sending machine is able to send the mail, in blue the one of the VirtualCenter.

Thanks in advance

2018-06-20T15:50:39.811-04:00| mks| I125:   file version 14.1.2.33210

This is Windows 10, 64-bit  (Build 16299) 10.0.16299 as a host, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS,

Linux version 4.13.0-45-generic (buildd@lgw01-amd64-011 as a guest using

Workstation 14Pro (14.1.2 build-8497320).

I suspect this is related to a recent Windows update but its hard to know for certain. The last windows update was

on 6/12 & 6/13 which looks like a bunch of application updates but there is this:

    June 12, 2018—KB4284819 (OS Build 16299.492)

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4284819/windows-10-update-kb4284819

I tried setting the VMWare Hardware compatibility setting back down as one article suggested but that

did not help.

New-TagAssignment works in .ps1, but not in .psf...

I have a very simple function I've created that creates Tags (if they don't exist), then assigns them to a VM. I created and tested this code in a normal .ps1 file first before porting it over to the Form Project. As stated in the subject, this code works perfectly fine in a .ps1, but if I try to add the exact same code to my Form Project, or even a bare-minimum .psf (with a single button to 'GO'), the script execution hangs/freezes forever when trying to execute the New-TagAssignment statement.

PLEASE NOTE: to test the code, change the Connect-VIServer and $VMname lines to be applicable to your environment.

I'm attaching 2 files to demonstrate what I'm talking about.  The code to do the Tag query and assignment are the same between the two files.  The only difference is one file is a regular .ps1 whereas the other file contains a GUI (.psf).

  1. Doesn't_Work.psf - This is a very stripped down version of the GUI from my actual project. This file only contains the form and a single "GO" button to execute the code.  Even in this very basic version, the script hangs/freezes forever when trying to execute the New-TagAssignment cmdlet.
  2. Working.ps1 - This is strictly the code without a GUI.  This works perfectly...

After doing a tremendous amount of troubleshooting on my own, contacting Sapien support (the IDE I use for GUI powershell projects - Powershell Studio 2017 5.4.145.0), and massive Googling, I've come to the conclusion that there must be a bug in the cmdlet that is causing the hang/freeze.  There aren't any messages (error or otherwise) displayed; just straight up hangs/freezes forever.

I've seen many people with similar issues like I have (all concerning the "Tag" cmdlets), but I haven't seen any real/working resolution.

com.vmware.vapi.rest.httpNotFound after successful login (vCenter 6.0 Update 3c REST API)

After trying to follow this (vSphere Automation REST API Postman Resources and Samples - Samples - VMware {code} ) and this (Kyle Ruddy - Get Started Making vSphere API Calls the Easy Way with Postman - YouTube ) I am stuck. I have been able to install Postman, import the JSON files, create a environment for vSphere (vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 Update 3c build 7037393) (using FQHN) and authenticate. The result from the Login is:

{    "value": "214c5126c0ff010024798b861374b708"
}

... and a "vmware-api-session-id" cookie has been created. So far, so good. The problem is that if I now try something simple like get a list of datacenters|hosts|vms then the result is always:

{    "name": "com.vmware.vapi.rest.httpNotFound",    "localizableMessages": [        {            "defaultMessage": "Not found.",            "id": "com.vmware.vapi.rest.httpNotFound"        }    ],    "majorErrorCode": 404
}

I have tried both "Inherit from parent" and "Basic" for Authorization TYPE. In both cases the results are the same. The credentials I am using allow me to login to the Web Client with no problems.

What else can/should I try?
