I'm trying to deploy a second collector so as not to have more than 10 vCenters linked to one, but it wont let me register the second with the same email i've used to register the first. I've redeployed and rebooted a couple times, still with no luck.

Hi

I am trying to execute a rest request ( POST ) to mount and ISO image on a HP ilo. I have some working powershell code and you have to set the content-length. How can I set the content-length in VRO, when I try to use setheader it errors out saying "Cannot execute the request: ; Content-Length header already present"

Thanks

standalone VRMC 10.x - can it be used to display VMWare Workstation VMs ?

$

Hi folks,

I've posed this question in the "VMRC" forum, but have had no replies... Hopefully it'll fair better here....

I'm looking to use standalone VMRC to display VMWare Workstation VMs from command-line (Windows 10). Currently experimenting with WMWare Workstation Pro 14.

Looking at "vmrc --help", examples only show ability to display for vSphere Hosts (ESXi, vCenter), and the literature only mentioned vSphere.

Found an article via google whereby someone  changed the default viewer for VMWare Workstation to use standalone VMRC instead to view VM desktops which seems to indicate this is possible:

     https://be-virtual.net/the-vm-remote-console-changed-to-vmware-workstation-instead-of-vmrc/

In the end, I hope to create an application that will allow the user manage multiple remote desktop sessions(i.e. multiple VMRC windows will be embedded in this application).

I know it seems funny that I wouldn't just use the Workstation Host itself, but I don't want to expose that much "control" to the user - i.e. we don't want the user to play with Host settings, etc.

I don't know of a way to use Windows Remote desktop to access Workstation VMs connected to different VLANs.

What other 3rd party "tools" do any of you use to remote access to your Workstation VMs?

Any comment would be appreciated!

Thanks!

IPv4 Address for VMkernel network adapters

$

Good Morning,

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere. We are currently running vCenter Server v5.5. I right-click on one of our distributed switches and go here:

Add and Manage Hosts > Manage host networking > Attach hosts > Select network adapter tasks > Manage physical network adapters > Manage VMkernel network adapters

I then click on the VMkernel network adapter for a particular host and select Edit adapter > IPv4 settings.

I noticed that the IPv4 address is the same for this VMkernel network adapter on every host in the cluster that is utilizing this distributed switch. Is this normal (and is it okay)? We have not been experiencing any networking issues related to this.

Thank you,

David

NSX-T SR's but no DR's

Hi all,

I'm experimenting with NSX-T at the moment, and I'm having some issues with my T0 and T1 routers. This is NSX-T 2.2 running withing vCenter/ESXi 6.7

Background tasks completed:

  • NSX-T Manager and Controller deployed
  • ESXi hosts prepped
  • Two transport zones created - One for Overlay, one for VLAN
  • Edge device deployed
  • Edge cluster created
  • Transport nodes created for edge & esxi
  • edge device in both overlay and vlan transport zone
  • ESXi hosts only belonging to overlay transport zone
  • Two routers created
  • T0
  • Interface to logical switch in the VLAN transport zone
  • T1
  • Connected to T0 logical router, sharing routes
  • Attached a VM to overlay logical switch

Which basically looks like this:

1.png

Perhaps my interpretation is incorrect, but I would assume to have SR's and DR's for both T0 and T1. However, from the edge device:

2.png

This contradicts what's reported in the UI:

3.png

I would expect the transit switch/port information to be populated - can anyone clarify for me, please?

I have also noticed that even though my T1 router has a downlink interface to a overlay logical switch, and has a interface on that network, it is not advertising this network:

Anyone got an ideas?

VM has two vmdks with the same name on different datastores

Hey everyone.  I have a conundrum.  A server I'm looking at has two VMDKs with the same name, spread across two datastores, i.e.

[datastore1] server.vmdk

[datastore2] server.vmdk

No _1.vmdk like you'd normally see.

This environment also has several small datastores allocated to just one server, etc.  I'm looking to consolidate it into a few larger datastores, so the idea is to storage vMotion this server.  But I don't know what will happen if I try to move this server to just one datastore.  Will it rename them?  Will it just get confused and consolidate them?

Another issue with this particular server is directly attached iSCSI storage.  Yes, this server has 5 vmdk drives as well as iSCSI drives.  And none of them are small.  The server overall is probably about 20 TB of storage; it's a large file server for a graphical arts type of office.  My overall plan is to convert the directly attached iSCSI volumes into VMDKs by mirroring them, and to move the server into one large datastore, but there's some context.  Want to make sure I've got this right before moving forward.

Worst case scenario is I P2V the whole thing into a new server, but that of course requires downtime.

Hi,

I have replace my cert on all my hosts. Work's great.

After looking under Administration.SystemConfiguration.node.PSC.CertificateAuthority.ActiveCertificate I find that all my old Hosts certificate have expired.

I can't find the option in vCenter to remove them.

Does anyone know's how to remove the old cert?

Thanks

Is there a way to trace the lineage of a cloned VM?

In other words, is there a way to find out the source VM or the source VM template for a fully cloned VM?

How to shutdown VMs during host poweroff, without using autostart

$

I have a scenario whereby I have a single ESXi host, and would like VMs to gracefully shutdown when a shutdown command is issued to the host.

For reasons I won't go into, I do not wish for VMs to autostart when the host is powered on.

Is it possible to configure autostart to stop VMs during a host shutdown, but not have them startup during host power on?

Cheers

Horizon View Integration

Having trouble making use of the Horizon View content pack in LogInsight 4.6. I have v3.3 of the content pack installed. Here's what I've put together so far:

Created agent groups for client, agent, and broker.

Downloaded and installed the agent on the connection servers (these logs come in fine) and the View desktops.

If I go to Administration/Agents, the desktops and connection servers appear.

In interactive Analytics, I can search for my username and see the desktop logged in. It will show the connection server log and desktop log entries.

However, if I try to use the Dashboard "VMware - Horizon View" all of the graphs are empty.  Odd thing is the Desktops Sessions dashboard will show disconnected/reconnect but no other graphs. The PCoIP graphs will show data, so something is working. But would like to get the active user graphs working. If I try to view one of those graphs in Interactive Analytics, nothing appears. Are these graphs broken out of the box or something I need to do?

Appreciate any ideas here.

Virtual Switch ceases to be available suddenly

I had configured 3 VSwitch, 0, 1 and 2,

Groups:

"VM Inside Network" - vSwitch0 - vmnic0

"Management Network" - vSwitch0 - vmnic0

"VM Outside Network" - vSwitch1 - vmnic3

"Trunk" - vSwitch2 - vmnic1

"VM Inside Network" with 2 VM and "Trunk" with 1 VM. The other groups did not have assigned machines.

Today the virtual machines began to work very slow. In the Web UI I had an error that the vSwitch0 not had allocated ports and had reconfigured the VM assigning the Trunk group.

I reconfigure vSwitch0, and add vmnic2, Power off 2 VM, I reconfigure VM assigning "VM Inside Network" again, But the problem contínued when I power on the second VM.

Then the this, I rename one of the group ("VM Outside Network" to "VM Inside 2 Network")and assigned that group to the second VM, and so far is working.

I have some way of knowing why the vSwitch0 's ports disappeared. Is it convenient for to erase the vSwitch0 and to create it again?

Thank you very much

Update Lease and Archive Days in vRA Blueprint Properties using vRO

I'd like to update/enable the Lease (days) and Archive (days) Property values of a Blueprint and not having much success using the out-of-the-box "Create / update property to blueprint" Workflow in vRO.... I'm thinking this either can't be done or I'm not using the correct Property Names. At this point, I was only able to locate the following Properties:

__Cafe.Request.VM.LeaseDays

__Cafe.Request.VM.ArchiveDays

I am trying to avoid having to edit all my Blueprints on individual basis and apply changes globally.

Problems with suspending the guest

I use VMware Workstation Player 14.1.2 build-8497320 on Windows 10. The guest is a Fedora 28.

When I want to suspend the guest, it doesn't work.

I click "Suspend Guest" from the menu, confirm with "Yes" then the WMware window disappears for some time and pops up again. The VM is still running but Fedora lost its network connection.

Here is the part of vmware.log related to this attempted suspend:

Does anybody else experience this issue?

What can I do to make it work again?

I think (but I'm not sure) that this behavior started after upgrading to 14.1.2

When trying to open my VM I am getting this error message (haven't opened in a while):

Unable to open file "/Users/jasonmancuso/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 8 x64.vmwarevm/Virtual Disk.vmdk":

I am seeing the file in this path, so not sure why it is not opening/starting up?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

HPE Custom Image 6.7A false positive fan alarms

I have a brand new ML350 G9 I just put 6.7 on and I keep getting alarms for Host Hardware Fan Status, iLO on the host shows absolutely fine, I've confirmed with HPE Support that everything is fine.

That means VMWare is reporting a false positive, question is how do I get this addressed?

I have a DL360 G9 that is running ESX 5.5 and has been spiiting out memory errors every week. I have swapped out DIMMS and have even replaced the systemboard due to one slot being damaged. I had 50 VMs running on this server for 2 weeks and then a crash

I have a DL360 G9 that is running ESX 5.5 and has been spiiting out memory errors every week.  I have swapped out DIMMS and have even replaced the systemboard due to one slot being damaged.  I had 50 VMs running on this server for 2 weeks and then a crash.  Checked Ilo and saw that both CPUs and one DIMM had failed plus 5 more DIMMS had high rate of correct4able memory errors message.  Im new to ESX and have tried everything on the server end are there any patches which may help?  After migrating all the VMs off of this server I rebooted and all the errors were gone as if it never happened.   This has been occuring for over a month now.

This issue does not show up on VMware ESXi, 6.5.0, 7967591 (U1). Once I upgraded to U2 the erroneous issue shows up.

iLO shows Fan 1 & 2 are NOT installed

2018-05-10_10-09-01.png

host (and vcenter) shows them as installed with 0 RPM reading

HP support keeps pointing me to the URL (Using HPE Custom ESXi Images to Install ESXi on HPE ProLiant Servers | HPE ) which I reassured them I used to update 6.5 U1 to 6.5 U2. Reset logs/sensors doesnt work as well.

I checked HCL and the server build is most definitely on it but i guess thats just a grey area until its verified.

Oh happy days.

Anyone having the same issue?

I have deployed the Skyline applience in our test environment wothout issue. Since the prod and test enviroments cannot talk to each other a new Skyline applience is being deployed in production.  Network Connectivity has passed but when I try to Link MyVMware Account it says

"We encountered a problem while processing your registration. If the problem persists, please contact VMware Support: https://www.vmware.com/ca/support/contacts.html"

Is there a reason why a second applience cannoit be deployed or is there a particular port that needs to be open when registering the account

Assuming that you can only register 1 device at a time the one in the test environment was de-registered. Now I am getting the same issue mentioned above for the one that was working. Is there a way to fix this?
