Hello,
I was doing an upgrade on a one node vROps appliance today (from 6.3.0 to 6.7) and came across an error that my 'google-fu' has failed me and hoping I can get some answers here.
I did the upgrade assessment tool/PAK file and had no issues with what would be removed/etc...when the upgrade happens.
I did the OS upgrade PAK file first and that went without a hitch so I did the appliance PAK file next. After about 30-40 minutes, it finally failed. Step 4 of 9 - Preapply Validated and the status says, "FailedPAK action "run product firstboot scripts" failed.
How should I proceed? Not finding anything with that specific error. :\
We had an image accidentally upgrade to 1803. We were unaware when the image was handed to us and attempted to build a new linked clone pool with a persistent disk and it failed to provision. The VMs comes up with the date/time set without the timezone (UTC 0) and eventually fail to provision with error "View Composer agent initialization state error (22): Failed to mount persistent disk. Please check the parent VM if an existing disk is using the same drive letter. (waited 0 seconds)". We recreated the pool without a persistent disk and the linked clones provisioned successfully.
I understand that 1803 is currently listed as a supported for 7.5 and not supported for 7.4 (Supported versions of Windows 10 on Horizon Agent Including All VDI Clones (Full Clones, Instant Clones, and Linked Clones on Horizon 7) (2149393).
Hi everyone,
Very quick question:
In the installation guides it says that the ADMX template files should be copied to the C:\Windows\Profile Definitions folder of a DC (if shared ADMX files are not in use).
My question is IF there are multiple DCs in the environment, do I need to copy the ADMX template files to the same location on all DCs or just any single DC is fine?
Thanks and regards
Mark
Buongiorno,
non riesco a virtualizzare windows server small business 2003 r2 in un server vmware esxi 6.7.
Ho provato in mille modi, ma mi dà errore continuamente!
Qualcuno potrebbe darmi una mano?
I am trying to use this kb as a guide to create a 200G raw vmdk.
This is the command that is not succeeding:
/Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-rawdiskCreator print /dev/disk11
The error message is
Unable to open "/dev/disk11": 16
diskutil list confirms this is what I want:
/dev/disk11 (virtual):
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: Apple_HFS VM Data +958.8 GB disk11
What is error 16, and why am I getting it?
What can/should I do to resolve it?
Hello!
for a project, I need to set up a horizon farm with a dual authentication system.
for that I set up a system with freeradius and google-authenticator.
not liking the system where you have to specify the password followed by the google code I wanted to make some changes.
I managed to make the first request google code and the second the user password.
but for the first step I have an error like this:
but I manage to move on to the next step and if I type bad code it blocks me as it is supposed to do.
this type of error occurred when playing with the file "/etc/pam.d/radiusd", here are the different configurations made on it:
#%PAM-1.0
#auth required pam_google_authenticator.so forward_pass
#auth include password-auth
#account required pam_nologin.so
#account include password-auth
#password include password-auth
#session include password-auth
#auth required pam_google_authenticator.so
#auth requisite pam_google_authenticator.so forward_pass
#auth required pam_unix.so use_first_pass
auth sufficient pam_google_authenticator.so
auth include password-auth
account required pam_nologin.so
account include password-auth
the mistake must be caused, I suppose, by a configuration made in it, but I'm not sure about it.
if you need other information I will make sure you send them.
in advance thank you for your help
Have a good day
Hello,
Workstation 14 on Windows 10 - All VMs have a red X. I just loaded Windows update:
Now none of my virtual machines will even load. Red X over each one.
Any one else see this?
Hi,
I recently upgraded vCenter and ESXI 5.5 to 6.5 and upgrade was successful. I deployed some new VMs on upgraded ESXI hosts but when I try to power on I am getting error "The host is reporting errors in its attempts to provide vSphere HA support.”"
When I turned off the HA on cluster and try to power on new VM then I get error “The available Memory resources in the parent resource pool are insufficient for the operation.”
The odd thing was, there were no resource pools that had been setup. Nothing was reserved for any VM.
Before I begin I like to say I am a newbie to VMWare Orchestrator.
I managed to get a VM deployed from a template in vCLoud Dirrector 9.1.
But the VM needs to be added to a VM Group in VCD.
Is there someone who have allready done this and would lik to share the code?
Or someone who is willing t o show me they way to start?
There is no example action in Orchestrator, but there is an API but it is not well documented;

vCenter 6.5
Today I received an alert that one of my datastores was running low on disk space.
The datastore contains VM's and replicas from Veeam B&R
I found several folders named the same with a _# so I reviewed them and found they are no longer needed I failed replication job here and there
So I went to delete the folder and most deleted but I have 3 or 4 that just will not delete
I tried powercli but only got as far as listing the datastore get-datastore then get-datastore DataStore-3T with some info
How can I delete those unused files?
Thank you
Tom

I have an OVA file I created with Workstation 14 a couple months ago. A colleague tried to deploy it using the latest version of Workstation Pro (14.1.2), and he tells me the OVA fails to import with the error "Failed to Open OVF Descriptor". He's tried several workarounds he found via Google using the OVFTool, but the problem persists. So after he reached out to me I installed the latest update to 14.1.2. Sure enough, now I can't import the OVA that I created using an earlier version of Workstation 14. Hardware compatibility is Workstation 10.x, OS is Windows Server 2016 (Dataserver edition with GUI), and it worked importing into ESXi 6.0 using the vCenter client as well as my earlier version of 14 (I can't remember if it was 14.0 or 14.1, but I can install older versions if it's helpful for troubleshooting). On top of that, I decided the quick fix would be to export the VM again (from my newly installed Workstation 14.1.2), and re-import. Guess what... The OVA i *just* exported fails to import in the Workstation Pro that exported it.
Any advice? It looks like our fix is to give up on updating Workstation, but maybe someone has a workaround or VMWare can fix what they broke in this release.
After some updates to our Linux Debian server we tried to virtualize it with vCenter Converter Standalone. Before the update this process worked multiple times, but now we got a "Unable to reconfigure the destination virtual machine." error. I'll paste the more specific message at the end of the post. After reading the error log and doing some research I came to the conclusion that the converter needs to find some modules in /lib folder and the update moved the files from /lib to /lib/i386-linux-gnu.
How do I tell the converter that those files exist in different folder?
Here is the error:

1) Ability to specify drive letter for shared folders (I know this can be done manually in Windows)
2) Ability to share folder without assigning a letter (so someone can map a network drive in Windows to a letter of their choice, without also having Fusion map it to another letter, resulting in two drive letters pointing to the same thing)
3) Shared folders are slow. It would be great if there was some way to map NTFS partitions on the Mac to a drive letter in a VM, with near maximum speed. I'm guessing this would need to be done though a driver in Windows communicating with Fusion. Either that, or speed up shared folders (although the slow speed might be due to Windows)
Hi all,
We keep getting this message in the bottom right hand corner of the screen in a Windows 10 virtual desktop pool
"Turn on Windows Security Center Service"
Anyone know of a way to suppress it?
Thanks
I have installed vSphere Replication Appliance 6.5.0.1104 Build 4633956, configured it and connect it to vsphere server. In vSphere Web Client version 6.5.0 the only task with error is:
"The name 'Cannot replicate VM configuration to the remote site.' already exists.", but the VR icon just not appear.
And, in task list, i can see that theVR plugin was successfuly installed: The deployment of plug-in vSphere Replication 6.5.0.654633957 is successful. Log in again to view the interface of the plug-in.
Am i missing anything?
Hi guys,
I'd like to send an email to the person who creates a VM in Vsphere. We're currently running on 5.5.
We have a security group in AD which allows administrative access to the Webconsole. I'd like to send an email to the admins when they create a VM to remind them of certain actions that he or she has to take. I thought about setting up a custom alarm to do this, because I couldn't find a predefined one. In the alarm i'm able to send a notification email, but this email doesn't include the text (reminders especially for our environment) I require. Is there another way of setting this up, for instance through "Run a command" and then point to a script? Have any of you experimented with this or is there an easier solution that I overlooked?
Thanks!
KR,
Kim
