Hello. I have a new HA cluster and a new SAN. If I set up vMotion on one VLAN(16) and iSCSI on a different VLAN(17) and there is no route between the two, when I send a vMotion or Storage vMotion request does there need be a route between VLAN 16 and 17 so that they can talk to each other or do they do their job confined to their VLAN? I think the answer is no, they do not need a route and stay in their own VLAN, but I’m trying to find something to back that up.
Here is an example setup:
Port Group | ESXI host | vSwitch | IP | VLAN | Speed | vmnic |
Mgmt | ESXi1 | vSwitch0 | 10.1.15.21 | 15 | 1 GB | vmnic0 & vmnic3 bonded |
Mgmt | ESXI2 | vSwitch0 | 10.1.15.22 | 15 | 1 GB | vmnic0 & vmnic3 bonded |
Mgmt | ESXi3 | vSwitch0 | 10.1.15.23 | 15 | 1 GB | vmnic0 & vmnic3 bonded |
