Getting two VMs to communicate

I am trying to learn how to use SCCM.  I have two VMs on my laptop.  One is Server 2008 R2 and i also have a Windows 7 VM.  On the Server 2008 I have setup the domain controller, DNS, and DHCP.  Now I am trying to add the Windows 7 VM to the domain I created however I am getting no luck.  Do i have to have both the Server 2008 and Windows 7 setup as bridged connections?  Right now I am using NAT.  Also is there some funny stuff happening because the VMs are still getting IPs from the DHCP on my router instead of the Server 2008 VM?   How would I fix this?
