ESX host cannot ping default gateway

I've got ESXI 5.1 installed on a Dell Power Edge R620.  I have a VM deployed running as a VCenter server.  I was able to manage the physical host through VCenter okay.  I configured two virtual switches, each on a different VLAN.  After this change I lost access to my host's management IP address (and no communication to VCenter either).

From the ESXi shell, I can ping the local IP address of the host, but not the gateway address.  I see this in the log:

SetTaggedManagementInterface: Writing vmk0 to the ManagmentIface node

"RoutingInfo: Unable to restore VMkernel default gateway (IP Adress): Unable to set VMkernel gateway Address. Please verify your IP settings and try again"

I've tried cabling to a different port on my switch and also using different cables but still get the same issue.  I've restarted and shutdown/reset the system.  I'm wondering if the management link got converted to a trunk interface as well (SetTaggedManagementInterface) entry.  I did notice the VmKernel Port was attached to Virtual Switch 0, which is where I configured one of the VLANs.

I guess I can reinstall to clear out the config, but I'm wondering if I can somehow restore a default network config first.

Carlos.
