Guest account doesn't recognize usb-devices

Hello all,

First some useful information;

Host: Win 7 pro x64

Running vmware workstation 9.0.2

Guest: Win xp pro x86

Purpose;

We're a machine building company and I'm a plc-programmer. I need to access frequency converter, plc's and whatsoever.

Problem;

When I connect my laptop to a frequency converter, the Host sees that there is a device attached, but it doesn't recognize it as a usb-device (although it ís connected through usb). It puts the device in the category "other devices". Most likely because it doesn't have a appropriate driver for it.

When I try to connect my guest account to the device, I can't connect to it using VM --> Removable devices. I assume this is because the host doesn't recognize it as a usb-device. The guest account dóes have the correct drivers installed and should be able to work with it but it just doesn't find the device.

I'm a newbie when it comes to VMWARE, so chances are that it's a simple thing I'm just overseeing. But this problem is bugging me for several hours now, couldn't find any useful information on the internet so I am trying this community now.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Regards,

Rick
