Gents,
this week I have faced 4 "stuck at 80%" SVmotions. First I thought it was due to the fact that I was trying to svmotion VMs enabled for vSphere Replication. But today I disabled VR for one of the VM and still got the same result.
When I ssh to the host and run the command "esxcli vm process list" I can see two instances of the VM being moved to another storage - one on the source datastore and one on the destination. Neither of them can be stopped. Tried "esxcli vm process kill" with all options - soft, hard, force. The only way to cancel it is to restart host management agents and then the task fails. However, i can still see two instances of VMs.
It seems to happen randomly and I can't figure out the pattern of this problem.
I briefly checked vmkernel.log and hostd.log and didn't find any specific errors, though I think I need to do it more thoroughly.
Now the question is - what is the best and appropriate way to troubleshoot storage vmotion?
All hosts run ESXi 5.1 with the latest updates. the License is Enterprise Plus.
Thanks.
