I have a quick question regarding the upgrading of drivers within a VMware virtual machine.
The host server is running ESXi 5.0.0 623860
The virtual machine is running VM version 8 with Windows Server 2008 R2 installed and Exchange 2010 SP1.
The customer has had a consultant in to do an health check on Exchange 2010, one of their recommendations was to upgrade the LSI Logic SAS drivers to the latest version, now I've never of heard of installing drivers in a VM other than those that get installed when you install VMware tools, I can't find anything on VMware website that talks about upgrading drivers either.
This article - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vmtools.install.doc%2FGUID-6994A5F9-B62B-4BF1-99D8-E325874A4C7A.html - suggest to me that the drivers shipped with the operating system are used.
Does anyone have any experience of upgrading storage controller drivers within a VM and if so was the advice from an authoritative resource?
Thanks for reading, Dom.
