XP VM does not completely shutdown

Hi,

I have never come across this in any project that I've worked on, so I really hope someone in the community has and has a solution. The platform is ESXI 5.0 (623860). The servers are Dell R620's. We have created a VM Windows XP SP3. VMware tools are installed. The VM works fine, except when you shut it down, it doesn't shut down all the way. Instead, it displays "It is now safe to turn off your computer". Can't seem to figure this one out. Tried a few registry keys in the OS to attempt to get around it but no luck. It does this regardless whether you try to shut down from the OS, or by using the vSphere Console shut down option. I have not been able to reproduce this in any other environment but one thing I noticed is, in my working environment, in device manager, the "computer" shows as "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" and in the troubled environment, it shows as "MPS Uniprocessor PC". Windows 7 VMs do not have an issue shutting down.

I was going to post this in the View community, but it doesn't really have anything to do with View. All that is installed is Windows XP and VMware tools.

Any ideas?
